Introduction to Contemporary Music | Online Workshop: 20 March 2027
Welcome to 'Introduction to Contemporary Music', an online class face to face with the founder of Team Recorder, Sarah Jeffery!
Are you curious about modern recorder music, but you don't know where to start? Never fear! Contemporary music - roughly composed after 1960 - is my favourite thing in the world. We will cover three areas:
- context: what is contemporary music, and why did it come about?
- techniques: a practical, hands on workshop to learn the most common 'extended techniques'
- repertoire: some examples from brilliant pieces to get familiar with
There will be lots of time for questions too. Can't wait to see you there!
Don't forget: you can bundle this workshop with the other classes on offer this season, for a discounted price!
When? 20 March 2027 | 8pm CET Amsterdam time (that's 7pm London, 2pm EST...)
Duration? 90 minutes
Where? On Zoom. You will receive a link to the Zoom class as the date approaches.
Level? Flexible: for improvers+. We will approach the contemporary techniques in a way that most should be able to follow. The musical examples given will range from beginners - professional level, but you don't have to be able to play it all!
Which size of recorder? You can bring anything, but I will use an alto at modern pitch.
What if I miss the class? Don't worry! You will have access to a video of the class for 2 months afterwards.
Accessibility? The class with be given in English, with automatic captions. The video registration of the class will have captions too. A transcript will be available afterwards. The accompanying PDF handout will be available in text-only and audio description upon request.
